Berit Mason is a media professional with solid writing and editing skills and experience in all kinds of communication working in journalism, broadcasting and advertising.
Currently, Ms. Mason is a news anchor and reporter for Clear Channel Radio flagship station WOAI 1200 AM. She covers news events in San Antonio, writes and announces live newscasts and traffic reports and voices commercials for the sales department.
History
After achieving her BA in Political Science from Austin College where she was Assistant Editor of the yearbook, she worked for the Texas State Legislature responsible for the administrative handling of new bills. She then undertook studies in Radio, Television and Film and was accepted to intern with CNN Washington assigned to cover the US Supreme Court. Coming home to Texas, she managed the nights and weekends assignment desk for KSAT 12 News and moved to KENS 5 to produce weekend newscasts. She was a guest booker for WOAI 1200 AM, an announcer for Houston’s Metro Networks and worked on Rysher Entertainment’s major motion picture “The Evening Star” starring Shirley MacLaine.
Fulfilling a long-held goal to work on camera, she took a job in West Texas as a reporter for KLST Ch. 8 and was then promoted to 6 & 10pm evening news anchor.
While in San Angelo, she won Best Reporter Honorable Mention from the Texas Association of Broadcasters. Berit moved to Waco where she was a general assignments reporter for KCEN NewsStrong 6. During this time, she was accepted into the German American Journalism Exchange Program sponsored by the RTNDA to tour and report on German current affairs. Inspired her international experience, she moved to Europe.
She worked for Rapp Collins/Direct Friends and Trend Buero advertising agencies in Hamburg creating advertising copy for Sony, Adobe, Siemens and Proctor and Gamble. On return to the US, she taught for ELS Language Center at Incarnate Word University. She was then hired as a lecturer for the University of Mexico in San Antonio and in Los Angeles; in L.A. she was in charge of the school’s new English department.
